The alcohol in beer acts as a cleansing and shining agent, and has a softening effect as well. The presence of barley makes beer a rich source of proteins and vitamins.

For example, the vitamin B and proteins found in malt and hops, which are key ingredients in beer, help to repair damaged hair.

DIY Beer Shampoo and Conditioner

Learn to make your own beer shampoo and conditioner by following these simple steps outlined below.

Beer Shampoo

  1. Measure 1 cup of beer.
  2. Pour the beer into a cooking pan.
  3. Place the pan on the stove and let the beer boil for 15 minutes or until it has reduced to half of its original measurement.
  4. Let it cool completely.
  5. Measure 1 cup of shampoo and pour it into the pan with the cooled beer.
  6. Mix well and it is ready to use.

Beer Conditioner

  1. Measure ½ a cup of flat beer.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon of sunflower or canola oil.
  3. Add a raw egg and mix everything together.
  4. Apply your mixture to clean, damp hair and let it sit for 15 minutes.
  5. After 15 minutes, rinse your hair with cool water.
  6. Repeat twice a month of whenever you have spare beer in the fridge.
